CINCINATTI INSTITUTE FOR URBAN STUDIES
CINCINATTI, OHIO
2011, Unbuilt
An institution for advancing the knowledge of urban systems
and networks, the CIUS houses both private research facilities and public
outreach spaces. Visiting researchers live and work on the grounds, having
access to private residences, offices, and studios. The culmination of their
findings are offered to the public through lectures and workshops in the
institute’s various lecture halls and gallery spaces. The unconventional site
accommodates a highway bridge that cuts through the volume containing the public
galleries and studios. A bridge spanning the chasm doubles as a triumphant
entrance into the city of Cincinnati.
