This design for an elderly retirement housing complex seeks to generate a new enlivened environment in the deteriorating urban fabric of Franklinton, Ohio. A residential bar, formally deployed to accommodate eighty-two residential units, is elevated to establish an private community level. The garden re-introduces local Flora and Fauna that have long been displaced by industrial production, while providing shelter for parking and a health spa below. At grade, the health spa houses an aquatic center, gym, and therapy room for the residents. The soft edge of the garden on the North side is contrasted to the South, where vehicular traffic and public transit stops acknowledge a hard urban perimeter.
